Mastering the Art of Public Speaking through Positive Thought Affirmations

The art of public speaking has to be one of the most defining skills that has to be mastered by any person who is a true leader basically because people look up to leaders and what they say. The word ‘leader’ has been used in the very broad spectrum of the word i.e. whether the leadership is political, business-oriented, religious, and even in the sporting world. Being able to speak to a group of people let alone a multitude can be one of the most unnerving experiences that one can go through but the rewards of being able to pull through a speech successfully are undeniably far reaching and immense.

Being able to successfully deliver a speech or speak in public for that matter essentially means that you have been able to overcome your jitters and nervousness as well as being able to have a mastery over speech control. There is a fine balance between being doing this and overdoing it. Tending to overdo the confidence and control often results in speeches that are quite dull – the speeches can be quite boring as a result. It is hard to be a motivator when you seem to controlling and devoid of human ‘qualities’ so to speak. As such, having a slight nervousness is quite OK; there are ways of using this to make your delivery more profound.

Things You Can Do to Build Confidence

There are some several things that you can do as you try to muster the skills required in public speaking. One of the most vital is of course having full knowledge about what you intend to talk about. Doing this requires adequate pre-delivery preparation. This is done by rehearsing prior to the main occasion – standing up and doing some loud practice is quite effective. The point is to avoid freezing before your audience. Practicing in solitude is effective only to a certain degree – a small group of people is more effectual in terms of gauging response.

Remember to Relax

Before making the actual speech it is essential that you are as relaxed as possible. Use deep and slow breathing to do this; breathe through the nose. Let your focus be on the audience and not yourself. One trick that you can use to your advantage is trying to meet a few members of the audience before the speech. Know a little about them and then as you speak look at them one at a time in the eyes. As you speak you must exude confidence and not over-confidence. Holding your head high and smiling is very effective.

Overcoming the Ingrained Fears

Growing up we have repeatedly heard that it is difficult to address multitudes but there are people who have overcome this fear. The use of positive thought affirmations is a sure way of slaying these fears. When this technique is used alongside visualization the subconscious sentiments that send signals of fear to our conscious can be reprogrammed. Positive affirmations for self confidence, oratory ability, voice control, and developing relationships with audiences can be repeated to the subconscious especially during sleep as there is no room for resisting thoughts during absolute rest. Be consistent with these repetitions; a sustained effort ensures that the desired reprogramming is fast and effective.

The pointers that have been mentioned above need to accompany the affirmations as none of the initiatives will work alone. Dedicated practice will certainly bring positive results.
